Captain Paul Watson Commentary: Cecil was Murdered and Now His Brother Jericho is Dead

Cecil and Jerciho

Cecil was Murdered and Now His Brother Jericho is Dead

These Sociopathic Trophy Hunters must be Stopped.

Commentary by Captain Paul Watson

Walter Palmer the lion-killing dentist from Minnesota has opened up a nightmare of violence against lions in Zimbabwe. He did not kill just one lion. His one arrow has set in motion a chain of killings that will devastate Cecil’s pride.

This perversion of trophy hunting, this sick and twisted psychotic urge to kill an animal just to possess some of it’s parts to put on display has opened up the floodgates of violence against the noblest creatures in Africa.

Serial killers, those who kill humans, have a tendency to begin their sick homicidal attacks first on animals. Serial killers also have a tendency to collect souvenirs from their victims, a little something to allow them to relive the thrill of the kill.

Trophy hunters are ruthless and remorseless serial killers. They need to kill and like human serial killers they need souvenirs to relive the thrill. Unlike human killers, the trophy hunter has the advantage of openly displaying their blood token, which most proudly do, adorning their walls, bedrooms and dens with the heads and body parts of their victims.

This killing validates them somehow, compensates for sexual inadequacy or low self-esteem and makes them feel powerful and superior.

They are soul-sucking thieves who have a need to capture the nobility of their victims and to display that nobility as their possession, to be displayed as evidence of their own self-worth.

These are the real vampires who walk amongst us. Some kill humans, some kill animals and some kill both. But what they have in common is a need to collect souvenirs (trophies) to relive the thrill.

They are sociopaths, lacking in empathy and compassion with an infinite capacity to rationalize and to justify their vile actions.

Think about it. How normal is it to take a rifle or a compound bow and to coldly assassinate a lion, a rhino, a giraffe, an elephant or any other animal. To extinguish the life of a noble sentient being, to convert such a living wonder of nature into a carcass and to slice off its body parts for display.

When I saw Cecil’s mutilated body lying on the ground, I recalled the images of human bodies mutilated and tossed into a ditch by sociopathic serial killer.

This self-centered arrogant cosmetic dentist did not give a thought to the consequences of his actions when he let loose a poorly aimed arrow that struck Cecil the lion in the loin and caused him to die forty hours later in agonizing pain.

“It was legal,” he said.

But it wasn’t legal. The lion was baited out of a park and it was tagged with a research collar and after tracking down the lion and killing him, he and his guides attempted to destroy the radio collar. He then said he would cooperate with Zimbabwe but we all know he will never voluntarily return to Zimbabwe.

But what this big white hunter should have known, but probably could care less about, was that Cecil had cubs and without protection those cubs will die.

But fortunately in the lion family unit known as a “pride” Cecil had a brother and that brother took over the responsibility of protecting those cubs. The brother had a name also – Jericho.

Jericho was everyone’s hope for the cubs.

Until today, when another poacher shot and killed Jericho.

Jericho died at the hands of an unidentified criminal, gunned down in Huwane National Park.

Johnny Rodrigues, Chairman for Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, said in a statement: “It is with great sadness and regret that we report that Jericho was shot dead at 4 p.m. this afternoon. “We are absolutely heartbroken. We have no further details but will advise as soon as we know more.”

Dr. Walter Palmer also committed an illegal act by shooting the lion with an arrow. This in itself is a contravention of Zimbabwean hunting regulations.

Professional Zimbabwean hunter Theo Bronkhorst, the guide that Palmer threw under the bus before grabbing the first jet back to the States said, “I don’t believe I failed in any duties at all, I was engaged by a client to do a hunt for him and we shot an old male lion that I believed was past his breeding age. I don’t think that I’ve done anything wrong.”

Cecil was certainly not past his prime and his hunting fee of $55,000 paid by the dentist is far less than what Cecil brought into the country from tourism. Bronkhorst certainly did do a few things wrong. In fact he committed crimes.

Bronkhorst said “Both I and the client were extremely devastated that this thing had a collar on because at no time did we see a collar on this lion prior to shooting it. We were devastated. I left the collar there at the bait site and unfortunately that was stupid of me and negligent of me.”

What Bronkhorst is saying that he was so devastated that he tried to destroy the collar and that it was so stupid of him that he had not destroyed the evidence, because it was this collar that led authorities to Cecil’s body.

And now Jericho is dead and most likely the cubs will soon be dead and the entire pride is in chaos. And all because Dr. Walter Palmer has a passion to kill for vanity.

Equally twisted hunters like Ted Nugent are bragging how Palmer did nothing wrong and boasting how he (Nugent) once killed Cecil’s father. And the giraffe-killing director of the Copenhagen Zoo, Bengt Holst has actually gone on record defending this poacher and dismissively saying animals should not have names. And of course even crazy Sarah has spewed her venom into the media defending the killing. Serial killers defending serial killers. It’s an exclusive club of very sick individuals.

The only good thing that has happened is that the elephant that Palmer was aiming to cut down has been spared by the fleeing poacher. You see Palmer wanted to get himself a 65- pound tusk and a victim had been selected for him. Yet he decided instead to flee Africa. The very fact that he ended his safari and did not kill the elephant is evidence in itself that he knew what he did was a crime, and he was hightailing it back home before the situation caught up with him.

What he has discovered is that running and hiding have not spared his reputation. The great white hunter is now the most hated man in America. Hell even the serial killing Safari Club has revoked his membership and his past sexual indiscretions and previous wildlife crimes are all over the media.

Hopefully this outrage will help to bring legislation banning serial killing wildlife trophies and if that happens Palmer will become the most hated man amongst his peers, that dark and bloody fraternity of Nimrods who live to inflict pain, misery and death.
