USDA Cracks Down On Nightmare Meat Experiment Facility

New projects are on hold at the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center until animal welfare at the facility is improved, U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced on Monday. The center must update its welfare standards and record-keeping procedures to ensure all animals are cared for, Reuters reports.

The taxpayer-funded Nebraska facility came under fire in January after an investigation by The New York Times revealed horrific conditions for cows, sheep, pigs and other livestock at the center.
