Philadelphia bar refuses to show Eagles games as long as Michael Vick is on team

There is a bar in the Philadelphia Eagles-crazed City of Brotherly Love that refuses to show the local NFL team’s games as long as he is on the team.

He is Michael Vick, the convicted and rehabilitated dog fighter who has sought forgiveness for his crimes and now speaks as a dog advocate. But that’s not how Patty Brett, the owner of Doobie’s, a Center City bar, sees it.

According to this profile on Philly-based, Brett holds no quarter on the issue — she remains disgusted by what Vick did and, hence, no Eagles on the TV until he’s playing elsewhere. She has kept with that ban since Vick joined the team in 2009, and has no plans to change until he’s off the roster.

“Because of what Michael Vick has done to those animals, I can’t in good conscience support the Eagles while he’s a member of the team,” she said. “He murdered and tortured animals and I can’t forgive him for that.”

Has the ban hurt business? Almost certainly. But some patrons say they respect her decision. And Brett isn’t banning all NFL games — she says she’s happy to put other contests on the TV for her guests.–nfl.htm
