DSWT rescues another orphan elephant

Mumbushi, rescued from Mt Kenya, July 5, 2011

By The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust

This morning, Tuesday 5th July 2011, we were called by the Kenya Wildlife Service Senior warden of Mount Kenya about a tiny orphaned elephant calf who had been rescued after being attacked by community members with pangas (machetes).

He has been named Mumbushi, after the marshy area from where he was rescued on Mount Kenya. He arrived at the DSWT’s Nairobi Nursery shortly after midday, exhausted from his ordeal and with a bad head wound inflicted by a panga. He is approximately 3 months old.
