Humane deputies discovered a dog fighting ring in
south Montgomery and are looking for at least 20
suspects, Humane Society officials said.

The Humane Society has recovered 14 dogs, said
Steven Tears, director of the Montgomery County
Humane Society.

Authorities found a dog fighting event in progress
late Sunday night near Hassey Road and Nickerson
Lane, Tears said.

It was a “pretty big event,” and about 20 cars were
at the scene, Tears said.

“You could tell it wasn’t the first time” a dog fight
had been held there, he said.

People at the event scattered into the woods when
authorities arrived, Tears said.

Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies were having
cars towed and dismantling the pit where the fights
took place Monday morning.

Deputies are looking for a minimum of 20 people
but suspect more than that were involved in the dog
fighting ring, Humane Deputy Scott Hill said.

No one was in custody Monday morning but
deputies do have suspects, Hill said.
