Asian Elephant at Mt. Brook Safari

From the Over The Mountain Journal:

Zoo Gala Guests Enjoy ‘Escape to Africa’
On Thursday, April 15th at 6:30 p.m. the Birmingham Zoo held its ZooGala 2010 safari-style kick-off event and dinner sponsored by IBERIABANK.  The location of the event was at capacity with over 200 people in attendance. Guests were invited to “Escape to the Trails of Africa” and met special guests and honorary chairs, Terry and Nick Saban.

Rosie – a 26 year old Asian elephant topped off the safari-themed event.  All funds raised for this safari-style kickoff event and dinner go toward the Zoo’s signature exhibit – “Trails of Africa” – the focus of which is the care and conservation of elephants.  This unique event helped the Birmingham Zoo continue its mission of “Inspiring Passion for the Natural World.”

Sources have revealed this event was held at a Mountain Brook residence.

Another source revealed, event coordinators did not acquire a necessary permit from the City of Mountain Brook to have the elephant at the event.

And it is understood, a notice will be sent to the homeowner regarding the presence of the elephant.
